storm1[2]

If you live anywhere from Colorado to Wyoming to the western half of North and South Dakota into Eastern Montana then this update is essentially directed towards you.

First two images belong to the 00z GFS and the latter two belong to the 00z ECM. You can see that both models essentially agree on a storm taking shape over the Rockies region and then moving North Northeast . We see no reason to change the thinking on the track shown a couple days ago..

As far as sensible weather is concerned ..out ahead of this low the air mass is relatively warm with temperatures going to be in the 40s for the most part. So areas in the northern Plains may begin as rain or a wintery mix and change over to snow as the cold front works thru…In locations such as Colorado and Wyoming temperatures should be cold enough by the time the precipitation begins to begin as snow.

At the present time it seems like the heaviest amounts of snow will be around 4-8 inches with some locations potentially near a foot.

Because the system will actually be deepening there will be increased winds which could gust to about 30 miles per hour.

Just as the east went thru an early fall snowstorm that caused trees and wires to come down if you are in the locations above you may want to pay attention to your local weather sources.
