Once again there continues to be a lot of talk going around the internet in regards to the area of low pressure that is currently off the coast off of NJ.

Is this a cut off area of low pressure or is this a Noreaster?

Despite what you may be reading around the internet this is not a Nor Easter..This is not a tightly wrapped up area of low pressure. This area of low pressure is essentially cut off from the flow which makes it a cut off low. It basically is going to stall and linger in the same area for the next 24 hours and then slowly drift west as a new low spawns off and then moves NE.

Noreasters on the other hand are deepening low pressure areas as they move up and along the coast. On the contrary this is not a deepening low pressure area but a low pressure area cut off from the flow that will weaken as it essentially stalls and then slowly drifts towards the west. This will then begin to fill in and weaken and another low will then form and move off to the NE.

This cutoff low will be responsible for rain and drizzle over the next 24 hrs or so.

Be careful what you read out on the net because there is alot of misinformation and even some forecasters with the label Pro that like to hype a situation instead of forecasting the reality of what is happening and occurring.

This will not be a repeat situation of what just occurred ..Rainfall from this will be much more on the lighter side with general amounts for the region of 1-3 inches. Most parts of the region will probably stay in the 1-2 inch range….
