Invest 97 L To Become Depression –Tropical Or Subtropical?

20101005.1715.goes-13.ircolor.97L.INVEST.30kts.1006mb.19.5N.65.3W.100pc

We have been watching and monitoring Invest 97 L and we had mentioned last update last night that if conditions persisted we could be looking at Tropical Depression # 17.

These conditions have continued to persist and the convergence and divergence still remains relatively decent and shear has dropped to around 10 knots.

convergence shear

The one downside is the vorticity continues to be stretched out and elongated.

This once again is another tricky situation because there is also an upper level low that 97 L is embedded within.

You can see this clearly when looking at the WV loop (click here) .

So the reality of the situation is that the system is being enhanced by Baroclinic processes and this ULL is expected to stay embedded with 97 L for the next 72 hours.

So they would have every reason to make this a Subtropical Depression . due to it not being a purely tropical system.

Once again though this system will not have any kind of effect on the east coast as it will stay well away from the USA!
