January 18-19th Level 2 Alert & Update!

Time: 3 AM

Office: Real Wx Services

Alert Level..Level 2 “ Be Prepared” Models are coming to a consensus that a storm will be effecting the region in the next 24-48 hrs.

Effected areas…Interior regions of PA, MD, NW NJ, Interior NE , SNE away from the coast…

Low pressure currently developing over the Gulf of Mexico is going to start moving off to the east northeast and by 48 hrs we should have an area of low pressure just off the SE GA coast.. This low will then begin to turn up the eastern sea board and move along the western side of the Gulf stream where the greatest thermal gradient is. High pressure will originally be over the NE but will begin to lift up and move off to the NE. While at the same time a northern stream low pressure will also be working its way towards the area. These two areas of low pressure will essentially combine to bring the area another round of wintery weather.

Unlike last time, with the high pressure pulling away and a more western track…precipitation will start off frozen along the coast but quickly change to rain..while areas further inland away from the big cities ..see a longer duration event of snow & ice ..however..they too should change to rain.. Further inland should stay primarily snow/sleet.

There is the potential for .25 inches of ice in some locations.

The following map is very preliminary but it is the current thinking at this time. However..this is highly subject to change with extra Recon Data getting into the guidance for later todays 00z runs.

pre

Stay tuned for more information on this developing winter storm!
