Hurricane Earl Thoughts..

vis-l

wv-l

Clearly Earl has weakened while I was at work and he is now down to a Cat 2 with a pressure of 955 mbs as of 2 AM. Earl is also moving NNE @ 18 MPH…

The other thing to notice is that Earl is not making landfall at Hatteras but is pulling away from the region.

You can also see that he pretty much has lost the eye that he was maintaining. It has once again filled up. So basically those that were calling for a landfall along Hatteras were incorrect. Those that were calling for this to become a CAT 5 were incorrect.

With Earl soon to be traveling over colder waters and increasing shear to its north and becoming caught up in the westerlies he will continue to weaken more. Once again I see no reason to change the thinking of making landfall around the Nova Scotia area, while brushing past Cape Cod.

You can see the rain that is effecting mainly a small portion of the coast of the Carolina/VA area.
