More Thoughts On What NHC is Calling Matthew!

You are looking at the most recent images on what the NHC is calling Matthew.. Infrared really tells the story of the situation and Matthew is anything but impressive.

At one point earlier in the day the system was actually more impressive and that was around 12 Z. Since that point and time convection has become much weaker and what looks like some dry air possibly involved..

Matthew looks to be heading still towards the west and is currently dealing with upwards of 10 knots of shear to as much as 20 across the southern half..

A quick look at the steering currents in place suggest that this west track ..perhaps a little due north of west should continue and this places two thoughts at the forefront..

First off is its distance from land. As of 5 PM we were about 430 or so miles due west of Puerto Cabezas.  This would be the location of landfall if this were to continue on a due West Course. And the steering currents above due indeed show this due west movement should continue.

So this places the opportunity for this system (Matthew) to be further south then what the NHC has at this point and time and I am becoming more and more confident on this will probably make landfall in that vicinity. So landfall should be in the Nicaragua and Honduras region. This being the case with the steering currents then collapsing ..there is the potential that Matthew just dissipates.

If anything is going to move towards Florida it is going to be a newly developed cyclone..

As for Matthew it appears that he will have a very short lifespan..
